'Iron Man 3' Premiere Delayed in U.K. Over Thatcher Funeral

By Brent Lang

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Iron Man 3" will delay its United Kingdom premiere next week to steer clear of the funeral of the Margaret Thatcher, a spokesman for Walt Disney Studios told TheWrap.

The hotly anticipated superhero sequel, which a rival studio exhibition executive tells TheWrap is "tracking through the roof," was slated to make its debut across the pond on April 17. However, that date coincides with Thatcher's funeral ceremonies.

The former prime minister died this week at the age of 87. Ceremonies to honor her will include a procession that will see her funeral carriage travel from Parliament to St Paul's Cathedral that could lead to traffic headaches. Given her controversial tenure, one that included cuts to social services and privatization of state-owned companies, protests are expected.

The premiere will take place a day later in London's Leicester Square, the Disney spokesman said. The event will reportedly still include the film's stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr., according to the Hollywood Reporter.
