The Battle of Bands kicks off on Friday night for the 2012 Florida Classic weekend, but Florida A&M University's band won't be participating.
FAMU's band, the Marching 100, has been suspended for almost a year since the hazing death of FAMU drum major Robert Champion, which sparked an investigation into the band.
Battle of the Bands features dance teams, drum majors, drum lines and brass sections from the top high school marching bands in the country. Edgewater, Evans and Jones high schools will performing.
The event is held at the Amway Center on Friday night at 7 p.m. and will have a performance by the Marching Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University.
